A 39-year-old Lahaina man was arrested Friday for Violation of the Rules and Orders per Mayor Richard Bissen’s second emergency proclamation relating to wildfires.

Police said Josepha Toakala was located within the Lahaina wildfire disaster area around 8:33 a.m. Friday after previously being warned and escorted out of the area on Monday.

Toakala was transported to the Wailuku Police Station for processing without incident, police said.

Toakala on Friday afternoon was still in police custody with bail set at $200.

State and Maui County Joint Information Centers are reminding the public that access to the closed area of Lahaina applies to all unauthorized personnel.

Several media members have been contacted and warned by law enforcement after going into the affected area.

Police said that “there will be no tolerance for anyone who trespasses, including residents of the affected area, the news media, and the general public, which could result in a citation or arrest.”

The area is not safe and it is disrespectful for anyone to wander around without authorization, police said.
